Ulcinj: old town, town beach or Velika Plaža?

The old town and the long sandy coast are different stay decisions.

The short answer

Choose Ulcinj when the southern coast and its sandy beach options are central to the holiday. A room near the old town or Mala Plaža is a different base from an address along Velika Plaža or Ada Bojana. Decide where you want most days and evenings before selecting a property.

Choose it when

A southern stay centred on sandy beaches.

Compare another base when

Choose Bar for a working seafront town with rail, or Budva for a central Adriatic beach town.

01 / Where to stay

Choose the address, not just the town.

Each area changes the everyday walk, the evening route and the transfer. These are editorial fit notes; verify the precise accommodation entrance.

Old town & Mala Plaža

For a town-focused stay with the historic core nearby.

Check before booking: Check steps, the real route to the beach and the arrival drop-off.

Velika Plaža

For days centred on the long sandy coast.

Check before booking: Check which access point and beach section your property uses; the name covers a long area.

Ada Bojana area

For a distinct setting at the southern end of the coast.

Check before booking: Confirm the exact address, transport and services; do not assume easy evenings in Ulcinj town.

Four distinct settings, paired with the practical choice each one creates. Photographs show a moment, not current access, weather or availability.

01 / Ulcinj Old Town

Stay in the old town for the town

An old-town address is strongest when historic streets, views and town evenings are the purpose. It may involve steps and a different beach routine from a room on the long sandy coast. Check the vehicle drop-off and the actual walk to Mala Plaža before deciding that the town centre solves every part of the holiday.

02 / Mala Plaža

Mala Plaža is the town beach

Mala Plaža puts swimming close to Ulcinj’s town life, but it is not the same as Velika Plaža. Beach space, crowding and water conditions vary by date and weather. Choose a town address if you want easy evenings nearby, then verify the exact path from your accommodation rather than relying on a broad “Ulcinj beach” listing.

03 / Velika Plaža

Velika Plaža needs a section

Velika Plaža is a long coast with multiple access points and different property settings. The section near one beach venue does not represent the whole shore. Pin the entrance you will use, confirm parking or transfer and check current facilities; if you plan wind sports, assess conditions with a qualified local operator rather than inferring suitability from a forecast alone.

04 / Ada Bojana

Ada Bojana is a separate choice

Ada Bojana adds a river-mouth and island setting to the southern-coast shortlist. It is not a simple extension of the old town or Velika Plaža, and some facilities in the area follow naturist rules. Confirm the specific property, beach access and local norms before booking, along with the return journey if you want evenings in Ulcinj.

03 / Make the trip work

From arrival to an actual day.

Arrival

Pin the address against Ulcinj town, Mala Plaža, Velika Plaža or Ada Bojana. The long beach has multiple access sections; one generic location pin is insufficient.

Without a car

A town address and a long-beach address create different daily journeys. Check both directions of any transfer you expect to repeat.

A sensible day

Choose either a town-and-old-town day or a long-beach day, then arrange the return before setting out. Avoid treating the two as one walkable zone.

04 / Before you commit

Three checks that change the stay.

  1. Compare the exact beach section and address, not only the word “Ulcinj”.
  2. Confirm transfer and return transport if you plan to use town and long beach in one stay.
  3. Check current swimming conditions, beach facilities and property opening dates.
